Course Description

Politics is the process of determining what governmental services are provided for our communities and how they will be funded. To succeed as a leader of a police organization, executives must be able to maneuver in the political environment. This environment is composed of more than just elected officials and this course is based upon the premise that the political environment is composed of more than elected officials. Rather, the political environment for a police executive is a dynamic relationship of five interacting components including the police department (internal), public (citizens), media, other agencies, and elected officials. Those leaders who are able to effectively maneuver within this environment will be more successful in gaining the support and resources needed by their organization
