This course explores how police can effectively use crime mapping and analysis to adopt data-driven policing strategies to help reduce crime and enhance safety in their community. The basics of crime mapping and its use in crime analysis are discussed including the types of maps you may use, the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in law enforcement, displaying and interpreting data shown on maps, and issues surrounding data quality and management.   Following discussion of these fundamental concepts, the course examines new and evolving directions in policing including use of a problem-solving process for addressing crime and safety issues.
